Senior Day at War Memorial Stadium

Wyoming will play its final game of the season Saturday when the Colorado State Rams make the short trip north for 102nd meeting of “The Border War.”  Last year the Pokes went to Fort Collins and pulled out a 17-16 win to take home the Bronze Boot and earn the opportunity to play in the New Mexico Bowl.

Unfortunately the latter, as you know, won’t be the case for the Cowboys this year.  However, there is still reason to get to The War on Saturday.  First off it’s “The Boarder War;” and if you can’t get excited about that, I question if you’re a true Pokes fan.  Secondly, 13 Wyoming seniors will play their final game at War Memorial Stadium Saturday.  During their time at UW, these seniors have been apart of the following:

•In 2007, Wyoming defeated Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference, 23-3, in Laramie.

•In 2007, the Cowboys defeated TCU, 24-21, in Laramie.
•The 2008 season saw the Cowboys become the first team from a non-automatic qualifying
BCS league to win in Tennessee’s legendary Neyland Stadium since 1986 as UW defeated
the Volunteers, 13-7, on Nov. 8, 2008. Never had a Phillip Fulmer-coached Tennessee team
lost to a non-automatic qualifying BCS conference school at home until Wyoming.
•Wyoming became the first Mountain West Conference team to defeat Tennessee home,
away or at a neutral site with its victory. Tennessee was 15-0 versus MWC teams prior to
that loss to the Cowboys.
•A year ago, Wyoming captured the Bronze Boot with a 17-16 win on the road at Colorado
State. That win also assured the Cowboys a bowl bid.
•The 2009 season saw the Cowboys make their first bowl appearance and win their first bowl
game since 2004 when they defeated Fresno State, 35-28 in double overtime, in the 2009
New Mexico Bowl.
