I don’t remember the last time I saw a player other than the kicker with their hand in the air signaling they are ready to boot the ball. Enter
Wyoming’s Oliver Schober. Linebacker Oliver Schober probably never expected to be handling kickoff’s when the Munich, Germany product signed with the Cowboys last spring. However, with a strong leg and the obvious ability to make tackles, he fit in just fine this season kicking off 47 times of which eight were touchbacks.
Schober didn’t only get on the field on “Special Forces” this season, he also saw action at linebacker in 12 games for the Pokes. With 46 tackles, Schober finished tenth on the team for tackles. He also broke up three passes and recovered a fumble.
I suspect that Schober will continue to handle kickoff duties in 2011 while continuing to see time in Wyoming’s 4-3 defense.
