Game 2: Wyoming, #5 Texas Prediction

It has undoubtedly been a tough week for the Wyoming Cowboys with the tragic loss of teammate Ruben Narcisse.  Heading into the today’s game, this will weigh heavy on the minds and hearts of Cowboy players and fans.  The Cowboys will honor Narcisse with a “RN” sticker on their helmets and a different Cowboy will wear Narcisse’s jersey number (12) each week.  This week safety Shamiel Gary will wear number 12.  Before the start of today’s game, Texas will honor Narcisse with a moment of silence while showing a picture of Narcisse on the massive video board.  The Texas band will also play a song for Wyoming.

There has been some talk of how the circumstances will effect the Cowboy’s play today. What the Pokes have been through this past week will bring them closer together and will provide even more motivation.  The Cowboys have played against some top opponents the last few years, so they will not be awe struck going into Austin this evening.  The Pokes were in the game at halftime against Texas last year but slipped up in the second.  I look for the Pokes to keep it close again.  Although they are 28 1/2 point underdogs, I believe the Pokes can hang around and have an opportunity to win it.   In order to do so they must play a flawless game, which means absolutely no turnovers.  They must also get pressure on Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert as the Longhorns will look to pass more than they did last week in their opener against Rice. Oh yeah, the Cowboys must swarm to the ball on defense and make tackles.  This seemed to be a problem last week as they missed 23 tackles against Southern Utah.  If the Pokes can accomplish these things I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pokes were victorious.
